Early Saturday morning, our neighbors left for New Mexico. So I get to take care of Red Dog Ranch for almost a week! :D I LOVE doing this. I get the whole ranch to myself, I can ride any of their four horses any time I feel like it, the cows are due to start calving this week, and I can basically live there if I want to! She said I can even sleep at their house if I feel like it. It is SO much fun! I get 13 cows, about ten steers, four horses, and two dogs all to myself! I've been hanging out up there several hours every day. I love it!
This morning at about 9:00am, when I went up to feed the dogs, horses, and steers; I checked the cows and there weren't any calves. Bummer! So I went home. Came back up at noon and fed horses their grain, forgot to check for calves. Came back up at about 1:30pm to let the horses back out to the pasture, forgot to check for calves. At about 4:30, mom said "Lets drive up and check for calves!", so we did! And guess what. There was a calf!!!!! :D Of course, the last two times I went up there, she was probably in the process of calving! And I just had to miss it! Oh well. Hopefully I'll catch the next one. She had an absolutely ADORABLE little brown heifer with a white face that looks just like her daddy! When we got there she was still a little bit wet, so VERY new, and she was already trying to buck! She got sick of her mom licking her, so she tried to kick her mom's nose! She totally missed, but it was SO cute! :D Here's some pictures from the ranch. :)
Steers. :) (......In case you don't know, steers are the calves from last summer that are being raised for beef)
These guys are BIG! They are less than a year old!
Joey, takin' a nap in the sun. :)
"What? You want me to LOOK at the camera?! Ok, FINE."

Steers, snarfing down their corn.
The new calf! :D "WOW momma. You are HUGE!"
Giving him a bath. :)
I am so thankful that the Lord has given me this opportunity to do what I LOVE, and at the same time, help out a neighbor, and see God's incredible creation every day!
